Faith of My Father's is a memoir written by John McCain. It briefly touches on his families military history in the Navy, his grandfather served as a admiral and had command of the Pacific Theater during the end of WWII while his father held command of a submarine. His father also became an admiral and commanded the Pacific theater during the end of the Vietnam War. John McCain, a troublemaker child went through the Naval Academy as his father and grandfather had done before. He only barely made it through, racking up almost enough demerits to be expelled each year. After the Academy, he pulled his life together and began working towards promotions. He became a pilot and was desperate to get some action over Vietnam, when he finally asked his commanding officer to transfer him over. He had many successful missions until he was shot down over Hanoi. He ejected, breaking his left arm, right arm in three places, and his right knee.
During his confinement, he was beaten, kept in solitary for over half the time, given little food, and almost no medical attention for the five years he was captured. He credits his survival to his cellmates and the ability to communicate covertly with the other POWs. After his release he began a Congressional Career which lasted from 1983 to 2018.
